Guided Visualisation: Successfully Taking An Exam
Many people experience stress when taking exams. This guided imagery will help you relax and visualise the process of taking an exam successfully. Visualising success can promote increased confidence. Relaxation can help you manage the stress so that you can do your best in the exam.
[We know that visualising a situation or event can stimulate the same areas of our brain that would be affected if we were experiencing it for real. Evidence also shows that if we can visualise something going the way we want it to go – instead of worrying that it won’t go well – there is a greater chance it’ll go the right way for us. Athletes often use this approach when they have a big competition.]
The components included within this track are:
- Relaxing each part of the body, with the support of slow, deep breathing
- Visualising the process of preparing for an exam
- Imagining the day of the exam (waking up refreshed, feeling calm in the exam room, scanning the paper before starting to help with organising time, underlining key words, recalling information)
- Reframing anxiety to excitement
- Positive self-talk
- Dealing with the mind going blank (creating distance from negative thoughts, using a rectangle shape to support breathing, grounding exercise)
Simply sit comfortably in a place where you won't be disturbed and use headphones for maximum effect.
NB: Whilst this is not a hypnosis track, it should not be listened to when driving, or doing anything else that requires your full concentration, as it may cause drowsiness.
